A Perilous Horrorshow

by ~ScaryFairy

Swirling silk engulfs our bodies,
And we’re out in the ring once more.
Twisting with mesmerizing swiftness,
We’re barefoot in the bloodstained sand.

      The false coliseum stands tall,
And a thousand eyes watch, entranced.
Torn between the love and fear of us,
      Our frozen, grinning, exquisite masks.

And they can’t tear their eyes away,
            Our movements galvanize their minds.
We cavort, parade, swan, strut, flounce.
            Reverting to primal instincts.

                  Blades explode from their concealment,
Our vicious hands hold them up high,
                  An armed salute to brutality,
It’s the “dark beauty of violence”.

Bringing their blood to the boil,
With our splendour, our intense desires.
We control the crowds, the masses.
Their wailing war-cries hit the roof.

We are a carousel of hate,
                              A million, whirling, bright rapiers.
                              They can’t stop the unstoppable.
                              We’re bringing the horror-show home.

A poem written because I love the word horrorshow and it's uses in "A Clockwork Orange" book. And I love venetian masks. I did want this to be a song, but I'm not sure if it would work. I think it could do with another verse perhaps? I hope you enjoy this, I enjoyed writing it. Thesauruses are now my best, best friend!

Oh and the quote in the penultimate stanza is from Mussolini.

"Mankind can be governed by baubles" ~ Napoleon?

I made the picture on my crummy adobe photoshop for this using stock... I think its alright considering, tho it butchered the stock images I used. Just squint!
